Warren G. Harding Study Called “Fascinating” in Library Journal

In a Library Journal round-up, “The Buzz on Warren G. Harding,” an Ohio University Press book received feature treatment. Phillip Payne’s 2009 title, Dead Last: The Public Memory of Warren G. Harding’s Scandalous Legacy, was called “a fascinating exploration of the man’s reputation in his own time and of how we have continued to play upon Harding’s reputation over the years since then.”
In Memoriam: Philip D. Curtin, 1922–2009

Ohio University Press mourns the loss of Phillip Curtin, author of On the Fringes of History: A Memoir (2005). Curtin’s groundbreaking contributions to the scholarly study of Africa and comparative world history are his enduring legacies.
In Memory of Glen Elder

Dr. Glen Elder, author of Hostels, Sexuality, and the Apartheid Legacy: Malevolent Geographies, published by Ohio University Press in 2003, passed away on May 21, 2009. At the time of his death, Dr. Elder held the position of Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Vermont. The staff of the press sends its deepest sympathies to Dr. Elder’s family, friends, and colleagues.
Gurney Norman, Kentucky Poet Laureate

Gurney Norman, co-editor of An American Vein: Critical Readings in Appalachian Literature was formally inducted as the Kentucky poet laureate on Friday, April 24th, at the Capital Rotunda in Frankfort. Ohio University Press extends its congratulations to Gurney for having earned this honor.
Poet’s Book Gets Online Attention

A poem from Jason Gray’s Hollis Summers Poetry Prize-winning book, Photographing Eden: Poems, was featured on the ForeWord magazine site on April 20th as part of the magazine’s recognition of National Poetry Month. A few weeks earlier another poem from Photographing Eden was chosen to appear on Poetry Daily. All of which follows a December selection of Gray’s poems by PBS’s art blog, Art Beat.
