Ohio University Press mourns the loss of Phillip Curtin, author of On the Fringes of History: A Memoir (2005). Curtin’s groundbreaking contributions to the scholarly study of Africa and comparative world history are his enduring legacies.


April 23, 2009 – Gurney Norman, Kentucky Poet Laureate

An American Vein

Gurney Norman, co-editor of An American Vein: Critical Readings in Appalachian Literature was formally inducted as the Kentucky poet laureate on Friday, April 24th, at the Capital Rotunda in Frankfort. Ohio University Press extends its congratulations to Gurney for having earned this honor.


April 20, 2009 – Poet’s Book Gets Online Attention

Photographing Eden

A poem from Jason Gray’s Hollis Summers Poetry Prize-winning book, Photographing Eden: Poems, was featured on the ForeWord magazine site on April 20th as part of the magazine’s recognition of National Poetry Month. A few weeks earlier another poem from Photographing Eden was chosen to appear on Poetry Daily. All of which follows a December selection of Gray’s poems by PBS’s art blog, Art Beat.
